Working in Coomera

Coomera has grown quickly, with new streets and new estates going in all the time. Estates of new houses and townhouses spread out from Westfield Coomera, the train station and the M1, with the Coomera River and its canal estates on one side and Dreamworld close by. Many homes here are recent builds, on concrete slabs with small yards and rendered or brick walls.

Parking in Coomera's newer estates can be tight, with narrow streets and cars on both sides, so we sometimes park around the corner. Townhouse complexes usually need a gate code or a call to the body corporate. New homes often have no manhole in an easy spot, or a roof void with very little room, so we ask about access before the visit rather than finding out on the day.

Estates built on cleared land next to bushland and the Coomera River corridor can see wildlife move in from the edges, and the disturbed ground can suit ants. A new home usually has a termite management system from its build, but landscaping, garden beds, paths and decks added after handover can bridge or break it without anyone noticing. Keeping those additions clear of the slab edge is what keeps it working.

What we do here most

What Coomera homes keep needing

New homes, where what was added after handover matters as much as the build, set the jobs here.

Termites

Checking the barrier after new landscaping goes in

Garden beds, turf, paving and a timber deck often go in during the first year, and any of them can sit over the barrier or cover the slab edge. We inspect the perimeter, note where additions have bridged the barrier, and set out what to change. Where a top-up barrier is needed, the scope is written down before any work starts.

Ants

Ants moving in on a new estate

Freshly turned ground and new turf suit ants, and they move into new houses along sliding door tracks, garden edging and power points. We identify the ant and follow the trail back to the nest, then place bait or treatment where it will be carried home, both inside and around the outside walls, and explain how long the trail should be left alone.

Spiders

Spiders on a new home's eaves and windows

New homes near bushland edges can collect webs quickly under the eaves, in window frames and around garage doors, especially where outdoor lights stay on at night. We brush down the webs, treat around the eaves, windows and doors, and treat inside along the skirtings. Before we start, we talk through the products with you, and what to do about children and pets.

General pest control

A first treatment after moving in

A general treatment soon after moving in suits new homes, before the garden fills in. We treat inside under sinks, along skirtings and in the garage, then outside around the walls and eaves, and talk through what to keep clear of the slab edge as the garden grows so the termite barrier is not bridged.

If it is urgent

If ants start pouring into a new Coomera home

  1. 1Watch where the trail goes. Ants coming from under the sliding door, out of a power point or up through the floor tiles each point to a different nest and often a different species.
  2. 2Do not spray the trail or wipe it away with cleaner yet. Ants that keep walking the same path are what will carry bait back to the nest, and sprays scatter them into new spots.
  3. 3When you call, tell us where the trail is, how big the ants are, whether they bite, and the estate name and gate code if there is one, so we can bring the right bait.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas do you cover?

Brisbane, the Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland, from our base at Hope Island. Twelve suburbs have their own pages on the service areas page, but they are a starting point rather than a boundary. If you are unsure whether we reach your suburb, call us and we will check.

Do you answer the phone after hours?

Yes. The phone is answered at any hour, every day, on the same number shown at the top of this page. Call with your location and what you are seeing, and we will talk you through what to do next.

Do you work on businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We work in family homes, rentals and apartments, and in shops, offices, food businesses and commercial properties. Commercial visits are set around trading hours, and the treatment details are recorded after each visit.

Can you quote over the phone?

We can often give guidance from a clear description and a few photos. Termite work and more complex problems usually need someone on site before an accurate treatment price is possible, because what is in the roof, the walls or the subfloor decides the scope.

Why do pest control quotes vary so much?

The pest, how established it is, the size of the property, access, the treatment method and any follow-up visits all change the scope and the price. When you compare quotes, compare the areas treated, the method, the preparation and the follow-up that is included. A lower total can simply mean a narrower job.

What details should I give you when I call?

Tell us where and when you saw the pest or the sign of it, and take a clear photo if it is safe to do so. Mention any spray or bait already used, and tell us about children, pets and anyone with allergies in the house. All of that helps us prepare before we arrive.

Should I disturb termites if I find them?

No. Leave the mud leads and damaged timber exactly as they are, do not spray the area, and call us to arrange an inspection. Termites that are disturbed often move away and go quiet, which makes the activity harder to assess and treat.

Can I spray a wasp nest before you arrive?

Please do not approach or disturb an active nest. Keep people and pets away from it and call us for advice that suits where the nest is and how big it has grown.

What should I do after a bite or a bad sting?

Get medical help first, and call for urgent help straight away if someone has trouble breathing or a severe reaction. Dealing with the pest comes after everyone is safe.

What do I need to know about children and pets?

The preparation and re-entry instructions matter, so we go through them with you before we start. Tell us about every animal in the house, including fish and birds, and we will explain what to move, cover or keep away before we start.

What should I keep after a treatment?

Keep the invoice, the treatment details, any safety directions and our recommendations, along with any termite paperwork the job produced. If anything on them is unclear, ask and we will explain it.

Will one treatment keep pests away for good?

No treatment removes every future risk. Long-term protection comes from the right treatment, regular checks and practical changes around the property, such as fixing leaks, clearing garden beds from the walls and sealing the gaps pests use.

Does a clean home still need pest control?

Often, yes. Cleaning removes food, but pests still come in looking for water and shelter. Entry points, moisture and termite risk have nothing to do with how clean the kitchen is.

How often should I have a termite inspection?

It depends on the property and its risk factors, such as its age, construction, garden and history. After an inspection we can recommend a schedule that suits that house rather than a one-size answer.

Will supermarket spray get rid of a nest?

It may kill the insects you can see without reaching the nest or colony they came from. The right response depends on the species and where it is living, which is why identification comes first.
