Pest controller in South Brisbane, QLD

Working in South Brisbane

South Brisbane is largely apartment buildings and restaurant kitchens, and that shapes the work here. Towers along the river and around South Bank Parklands hold hundreds of units sharing walls, risers and bin rooms, and the dining strips along Grey Street and Little Stanley Street run kitchens late into the night. Pests can move through a building like this easily, so a problem in one unit is often a problem for the whole floor.

Getting into a South Brisbane building takes planning. Street parking is metered and scarce, so we use visitor bays or a loading dock where the building has one, and bring the gear up in the lift. Many buildings ask for a booking with the building manager before a contractor goes into a bin room, a basement or a plant area, and a fob may only open certain floors. Telling us who manages the building saves a wasted trip.

Away from the towers there are still older houses: timber workers' cottages and Queenslanders on stumps, with renovated rear extensions on slabs. Low-lying ground near the river can keep a subfloor damp, and damp timber is exactly what termites look for. In these houses the subfloor and the join between old timber and new slab are where we look hardest.

What we do here most

What South Brisbane buildings keep needing

Shared buildings, where the pest is rarely only in one unit, and kitchens that never fully close set the pattern here.

Cockroaches

German cockroaches moving between apartment units

Small brown cockroaches in a unit kitchen often come through the gaps around pipes and cables shared with the units next door. Treating one unit gives relief, but they can return from the rest of the floor. We treat inside your unit, show you where they are coming through, and tell you what to raise with the building manager if the problem is wider.

Commercial

Restaurant kitchens treated after the last service

A kitchen on a busy dining strip cannot have someone treating behind the fryers during service. We come after close or before the morning prep, work through the cool room seals, the dish area, the drains and the dry stores, then check the monitoring stations. The treatment details are left with the manager so they are on hand for the next inspection.

Bed bugs

Bed bugs in short stay apartments

Apartments rented by the night see a lot of luggage, and bed bugs travel in it. A host might notice marks on the sheets or read about bites in a guest review. We inspect the beds, the couch and the bedside furniture, treat what is affected and plan the follow-up around bookings, so the room is out of use for as short a time as possible.

Termites

Termite checks on an old timber cottage

A cottage on stumps with a newer slab extension at the back has two different risks in one house. We check the stumps, bearers and joists underneath, then the join where the new slab meets the old frame, which is a common way in. Damp ground near the river makes the subfloor worth a close look every time we are under there.

If it is urgent

If you find rats in a South Brisbane building

  1. 1Check whether neighbours on your floor are seeing the same thing, because a rat in a riverside building is often using a shared riser, bin room or basement rather than living in your unit.
  2. 2Leave supermarket baits in the box and do not block the hole you think it uses yet. A rat that dies inside a wall cavity or in the ceiling above the next unit is far harder to deal with than one we can trace.
  3. 3When you call, tell us the building, your unit number and floor, where you saw the rat or its droppings, and who manages the building, so access to the bin room and basement can be arranged.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas do you cover?

Brisbane, the Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland, from our base at Hope Island. Twelve suburbs have their own pages on the service areas page, but they are a starting point rather than a boundary. If you are unsure whether we reach your suburb, call us and we will check.

Do you answer the phone after hours?

Yes. The phone is answered at any hour, every day, on the same number shown at the top of this page. Call with your location and what you are seeing, and we will talk you through what to do next.

Do you work on businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We work in family homes, rentals and apartments, and in shops, offices, food businesses and commercial properties. Commercial visits are set around trading hours, and the treatment details are recorded after each visit.

Can you quote over the phone?

We can often give guidance from a clear description and a few photos. Termite work and more complex problems usually need someone on site before an accurate treatment price is possible, because what is in the roof, the walls or the subfloor decides the scope.

Why do pest control quotes vary so much?

The pest, how established it is, the size of the property, access, the treatment method and any follow-up visits all change the scope and the price. When you compare quotes, compare the areas treated, the method, the preparation and the follow-up that is included. A lower total can simply mean a narrower job.

What details should I give you when I call?

Tell us where and when you saw the pest or the sign of it, and take a clear photo if it is safe to do so. Mention any spray or bait already used, and tell us about children, pets and anyone with allergies in the house. All of that helps us prepare before we arrive.

Should I disturb termites if I find them?

No. Leave the mud leads and damaged timber exactly as they are, do not spray the area, and call us to arrange an inspection. Termites that are disturbed often move away and go quiet, which makes the activity harder to assess and treat.

Can I spray a wasp nest before you arrive?

Please do not approach or disturb an active nest. Keep people and pets away from it and call us for advice that suits where the nest is and how big it has grown.

What should I do after a bite or a bad sting?

Get medical help first, and call for urgent help straight away if someone has trouble breathing or a severe reaction. Dealing with the pest comes after everyone is safe.

What do I need to know about children and pets?

The preparation and re-entry instructions matter, so we go through them with you before we start. Tell us about every animal in the house, including fish and birds, and we will explain what to move, cover or keep away before we start.

What should I keep after a treatment?

Keep the invoice, the treatment details, any safety directions and our recommendations, along with any termite paperwork the job produced. If anything on them is unclear, ask and we will explain it.

Will one treatment keep pests away for good?

No treatment removes every future risk. Long-term protection comes from the right treatment, regular checks and practical changes around the property, such as fixing leaks, clearing garden beds from the walls and sealing the gaps pests use.

Does a clean home still need pest control?

Often, yes. Cleaning removes food, but pests still come in looking for water and shelter. Entry points, moisture and termite risk have nothing to do with how clean the kitchen is.

How often should I have a termite inspection?

It depends on the property and its risk factors, such as its age, construction, garden and history. After an inspection we can recommend a schedule that suits that house rather than a one-size answer.

Will supermarket spray get rid of a nest?

It may kill the insects you can see without reaching the nest or colony they came from. The right response depends on the species and where it is living, which is why identification comes first.
